According to the DECRETO 87/2015, de 5 de junio, del Consell, por el que establece el currículo y desarrolla la ordenación general de la Educación Secundaria Obligatoria y del Bachillerato en la Comunitat Valenciana. [2015/5410], ICT, as well as its use in language teaching, is to be understood as follows:
- ICT should be taking into consideration when it comes to the development of the current and innovative didactic methodologies, which tend to aim at a cooperative learning process as well as linking the language learning to other fields of knowledge.
- The importance of continuous teaching formation related with ICT should not be neglected. Indeed, ICT abilities are to be constantly improved and, if possible, evaluated.
In a world where technology is gaining an increasing importance, it is out of question how essential it is to provide our students with the tools they need to adapt to the new reality. Our students are to be taught by means of an ongoing training which aims at making them competent in the so-called digital culture in which we live nowadays.
As it is set out in the Real Decreto, we are in an educational system based on the development of competences. Among those appearing in the curriculum we find:

b) Mathematical competence and basic competence in science and technology
c) Digital competence
d) Learning to learn
e) Social and civic competences
f) Sense of initiative and entrepreneurship

Therefore, it is clear that becoming a digital native is part of most of the competences students are expected to develop during their secondary education. Then, it is up to the teachers – both from the newest generations as well as the “old-school” ones – to help students develop their digital competence.
